Oil Mill: 220 square metres, perfect for 5 people

See photos of the Oil Mill holiday apartment

While entering this antique building, you are immediately struck by the three big arches representing the spine of this 16th century oil mill, which is still intact. In this wonderful apartment you also find the perfectly preserved mills and the hand press used for the olive pressing. Moreover, here you also find the clarifier, recognizable by a semicircular vault made of antique small fired bricks (terracotta), a place where they used to put the oil to be purified – to be “clarified” – inside the typical oil jars and basins.

The low building consists of a double bedroom, a little bedroom and a large bathroom provided with shower and was once the room housing the donkeys used to turn the millstones. Here you also find a large kitchen that by a staircase leads directly to the antique underground ice-house, a picturesque place full of charm and mystery, where you will find yourself travelling back in time.

The accommodation is made of another big bedroom with two beds and of a small bathroom. Unless specifically requested, this apartment is usually used by the owners, except for the rooms of the big oil mill: here, the guests can have a break and taste the typical products of this area, which is famous for its IGP oil and its classical Chianti wine. The ceilings are made of chestnut rafters and joists and the typical Tuscan terracotta flat tile. Once requested, the wonderful apartment can be reached by four independent entrances.

  • The best time ever! Rented out the whole villa for a family reunion. Each family had their own suite. Very clean & Tuscan. The caretakers were VERY ACCOMODATING! Had two meals catered ... wish we had done a couple more...well worth the expense! Stayed for a full week. Hated to leave. Took day trips to Florence, Siena, Pisa & San Gimignano. Great location. Pool came in very handy with the summer heat. Planning on returning.

  • We went to Podere Jana (apartment gisella) on two occasions, in July 2006 and in July 2008. The apartment was superb, spacious and the kitchen was very well equipped. The pool was very nice. There is a jacuzzi, a barbecue area and a table-football available for guests. Podere Jana is within an hour and a half drive from Florence. Its location allows you to visit many tourist attractions in the region.

  • We stayed here a few years ago with a group of friends. Each family had their own apartment in this 14th Century Villa. As others have mentioned, we had an endless pizza party outside all pizza's made in the outdoor stone oven. Had another amazing dinner for 50th Birthday celebration, the food was outstanding! The views were unbelievable, the drive once you got off the main roads to this place were like you were in a movie. We plan to go back someday. We went to Rome first, then stayed here a week and went on to Venice. Took a few day trips to Pisa and Lucca, another day went to Sienna. Magnifico!
